MRB poll gives SYRIZA lead over ND by 3.2 pct

Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) led by 3.2 percentage points against senior ruling coalition partner New Democracy (ND) in vote intent, if early elections were to be held now, according to an MRB poll presented at private Mega TV's main newscast.

MRB poll gives SYRIZA lead over ND by 3.2 pct

The poll was conducted after the announcement of early presidential elections. According to MRB, SYRIZA got 24.2 pct in voter intent against ND's 21 pct.

The rest of the parties collected the following: To Potami 5.7 pct, junior coalition partner PASOK 5.5 pct, Communist Party of Greece (KKE) 5.0 pct, Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) 4.5 pct, Independent Greeks (ANEL) 2.8 pct, ANTARSYA 1.8 pct and Democratic Left (DIMAR) 1.5 pct. Another 6.6 pct opted for "Other", and those declining to give an opinion came to 21.4.

Asked for who would make a better prime minister, current PM Antonis Samaras got 35.9 pct against SYRIZA's Alexis Tsipras, who got 28.8 pct. Another 33.8 pct opted for "None".

Asked if they wanted early national elections, 61.6 pct responded under "Definitely not/probably not" while another 36.3 pct opted for "Definitely yes/Probably yes).

In terms of the government's candidate for Greek president - Stavros Dimas - 49.2 pct said they agreed with the choice (Definitely agree/Probably agree), 39.1 pct said they disagreed (Definitely disagree/Probably disagree). Another 11.7 pct said "Don't know/No answer". Asked whether they believe that the government will collect the requisite 180 votes in the third round on December 29 (a failure of which would lead to national elections), 58.5 pct said it will not and 30.1 pct said it will. Another 11.4 pct said "Don't know/No answer".
