Kefalonia: Myrtos beach re-opens
Open for bathers is expected to be in a few days the famous Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia, which remained closed after the earthquake due to support projects in rocks.
According to the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Michael Chrisochoides, who visited the island to inspect the progress of work at the port of Lixouri and the road network of the island, in the port of Lixouri, is completed the first phase of the work of repairing the damage, within that timeframe. Furthermore, it has already begun the second phase of the tendering of the project on the west quays, to the leeward seawall in Port Lixouri and in the tourist anchorage in Legatata, with a budget of 3.7 million euros. The total project duration is 9 months from the signing of the contract, which is estimated to take place in late July.
Regarding the roads, was signed on 5 May 2014, a Programmatic Agreement between the Ministry YME and the administration district of Ionian Islands. The total budget of the project program contract is 24.5 million. Under the provisions of the Programmatic Agreement has initiated the implementation of three contractors, including tackling rock falls and in remedial damage caused to embankments and retaining walls in various parts of the road network.
The first subcontract of 7 million budget includes urgent work to address the rock falls in the region Myrtos and Charakas. After the tourist season, is scheduled to be auctioned a separate contract budget of € 8 million for the completion of these tasks. On July 8 will be auctioned a third subcontract for treating damage caused in scattered locations of roads on the island, with a budget of € 9 million.
After the meeting which was held at the offices of the Earthquake Rehabilitation Service (YAS) in Lixouri with the participation of Minister of YME and representatives of local authorities and regional bodies, Mr. Chryssochoidis in statements noted: "the island every day restores and closes its wounds. Every day more and more public infrastructures are restored. The port of Lixouri is ready, are auctioned almost all major rehabilitation of the road network and the new wing of the harbor. Has significantly proceed the housing of people in rent or with some relatives and generally I would say that is taking place a huge effort to mobilize the entire state apparatus, so that the Kefalonia be better than before".
