Hand grenade against Russian Consulate in Athens
Attackers on a motorbike threw an explosive device at the Russian Consulate in Athens, at 4:00 am, on Friday.
Police forces immediately rushed to the area.
The foreign ministry strongly condemned the attack against the consulate of the Russian embassy in Athens, which caused minor damage but no injuries.
"The traditional and age-old relations of sincere friendship and cooperation with Russia will not be affected by unlawful and utterly contemptible acts," the ministry said in an announcement, adding that the competent Greek authorities will take all necessary actions to investigate the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
In statements to Sputnik news agency, Foreign Minister George Katrougalos offered assurances that all the necessary measures will be taken to avoid such incidents in the future. He underlined that Greece is a safe country, adding that attacks like the one at the Russian consulate this morning are only isolated incidents.
