SOS Children's Villages, care home evacuated due to fire in Vari-Koropi area
The progress in the implementation of the Operational plan for controls at the gateways into Greece will be discussed in a 12:30 video conference on Friday, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
A fire broke out on Friday on Odysseas Androutsou street in the Vari-Koropi area in Attica, in an area of low-growing vegetation. At the recommendation of the fire brigade, the children at the SOS Children's Villages, a charity for orphaned, abandoned or neglected children, have been evacuated as the fire is burning close by.
Shortly afterward, authorities also ordered the evacuation of a care home for the elderly, while the police have stopped the circulation of traffic on Evelpidon Avenue in both directions from the height of Anargyrountos Avenue.
A force of 25 fire-fighters with 10 fire engines and one helicopter has been sent to put out the blaze.
