FM Dendias to attend EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels
Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias is due to arrive in Brussels on Monday to participate in a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC).
The meeting is expected to be dominated by EU-Turkey relations, with emphasis on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, EU-Turkey bilateral cooperation - including the migration and refugee crisis - and issues relating to Libya and Syria.
In an interview on 'Skai' television on Sunday, Dendias indicated that he will bring up the issue of the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque. He said that Greece will ask the EU to have a list of very strong measures against Turkey in the case that it violates Greece's sovereignty or sovereign rights, as well as support for Cyprus in imposing sanctions relating to Cypriot rights.
On the sidelines of the FAC, Dendias will meet EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides.
