Washington: Inhibited exportation of “dual use” products to Russia
The U.S. suspended exports of products and technologies that can be used for both civil and military purposes in Russia, apparently in reaction to the annexation of Crimea.
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), which is under the Ministry of Commerce, announced this week that it will no longer provide licenses for the sale of such products in Russia. "From 1 March 2014 the BIS suspended the authorization to export or re-export products to Russia until further notice" the service notes on its website.
This notice followed the announcement of the U.S. about sanctions against Russia in retaliation for the annexation of Crimea. The dual-use items are products or technologies that can be used for civil and military purposes, such as equipment for military and police, chemicals and other. The State Department confirmed the announcement, by spokeswoman Marie Harf, noting that the decision was taken in response to the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
