Trials at Athens lower court cancelled due to tear-gas incident
All trials scheduled for Thursday at the Athens lower first-instance court had to be cancelled due to the suffocating atmosphere created within the courtrooms by the use of teargas on Wednesday to disperse protestors.
In an announcement over the loudspeakers, the court's management told litigants that cases scheduled for Thursday were cancelled due to the chemicals used, while the court staff also announced that they were walking off the job for the same reason.
The tear gas was let off inside the building during violent clashes between riot police and groups protesting against and trying to prevent the property auctions that resumed on Wednesday.
