Request submitted to Athens Court of Appeals in case of Turkish helicopter co-pilot
A request was made to the Athens Administrative Court of Appeals on Thursday, asking that the case of the Turkish helicopter co-pilot - accused of participating in an attempted coup in Turkey - be tried at the Council of State and set a 'model precedent' for others in the same case.
The aim is that the decision of the Supreme Court of Cassation should also apply to the remaining seven Turkish officers who fled to Alexandroupoli after the attempted coup d'état in July 2016 in the neighbouring country.
The Turkish serviceman had been granted political asylum by the 3rd Independent Asylum Committee but the government then requested an interim injunction to "freeze" the decision to grant asylum, as well as a request for the annulment of the decision.
