Parents of young Roma killed during car chase lodge civil action suit with investigating magistrate
The parents of Nikolaos Sabanis, 18, who was shot dead by police during a chase over the weekend, lodged a civil action suit to the proceedings during a hearing with the investigating magistrate of Piraeus on Tuesday.
The family of the young Roma is legally supported by the National Confederation of Greek Roma "Ellan Passe", and the civil action suit was accepted by the magistrate. In their report, the family alleges that the seven policemen who are currently detained deliberately killed their son, who they claimed was in the passenger seat of the car and not the driving one.
They also rejected the policemen's claim that they were shooting at the tires to disable the car, as only one tire was damaged, and said the policemen had superficial injuries, according to the coroner's report and the case file, proving their lives were not in danger.
His parents called for a detailed investigation and the punishment of the guilty parties.
