SYRIZA critical of government's stance at special European Council
"Due to the government's handling, Greece comes out the loser and without sanctions for Turkey from the European Council, with a wording that falls short of that in June 2019 on this issue," main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance said on Friday.
In addition, the announcement during the European Council of an agreement on a deconfliction mechanism at NATO, which the government had until recently denied it was discussing because it was an Alliance with "double standards", weakened Greece's positions and strengthened "those who - like Germany - wanted to avoid sanctions on Turkey using the pretext that it was allegedly 'complying'."
SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance claimed that Thursday's decision by the European Council "does not satisfy any of the goals that [Prime Minister Kyriakos] Mitsotakis himself explicitly set."
