Police arrest six in Thessaloniki after march for the Polytechnic Uprising anniversary

The police made six arrests in connection with incidents that took place at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), after the end of the march for the Athens Polytechnic Uprising Anniversary on Wednesday evening.

Among those arrested were three minors aged 16, while the rest were two young men aged 21 years old and one man aged 40. The 40-year-old was held for drug possession, while charges against the others included disturbing the peace. In total, the police detained 26 people after the march.

During the incidents, a group of hooded men gathered in the AUTH Polytechnic School threw Molotov cocktails, stones and other objects at the police. The violence lasted more than an hour and a half, while the Hellenic Police responded with flash grenades and tear gas, as well as using the AURA water-cannon to repel rioters and extinguish fires.
