Iliopoulos: Vaccinations need to 'go door-to-door' - Next lockdown coming closer
The vaccination of people against Covid-19 needs to go "door-to-door" for both booster shots and the 20 percent of vulnerable elderly people over 80 that remain unvaccinated, main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Nasos Iliopoulos said to Ionian TV.
Speaking during the channel's Wednesday night newscast, he emphasised the need to immediately set up mobile vaccination units and boost primary healthcare.
He repeated that Greece was experiencing a "daily tragedy" ith dozens of dead each day, which had claimed 1,674 lives in November alone and accused the government of having "given up" in the face of the pandemic. "The next lockdown is coming closer because the government has refused to do what needs to be done," he added.
He again raised the issue of ICU shortages and stressed that the government was "not taking measures that only target the unvaccinated when 80 pct of planned surgeries have been cancelled, as this affects all of society."
State hospitals were once again becoming a "one-disease" system while big private clinics were left out of the fray, he said. He also criticised the government for still refusing to mandate remote working, so as to reduce the pressure in large work spaces and public transport, as well as the practice of merging thousands of classes in schools to create classes of 28 or 29 children. On high prices, he said that government had shown itself unable to "plan strategically" to address the problem.
