Rainfall causes minor problems in central, northern Greece

Heavy rainfall caused minor problems in central and northern Greece on Tuesday, flooding roads and homes, authorities said.

In Halkidiki, the largest amount of rain hit Sithonia, flooding homes, basements and stores, firefighters said.

There were traffic problems reported in Nikiti due to flooded roads that swept away rubbish bins and one vehicle. Additionally, a river in Aghios Nikolaos flooded over, preventing drivers from moving through.

Earlier in the day, bad weather caused problems in the Magnesia area.

Several homes in Kanalia suffered flooding, while a few cars suffered damages from the heavyfall. In Kerasia, seven homes were vacated as a precautionary measure while a 150 metre stretch of the road gave way under the rainfall.
