Over 100 ancient coins found in car of Turkish national at Igoumenitsa port

A stash of ancient coins dating to the Roman and Byzantine times were found in the car of a Turkish male, 42, at the western port of Igoumenitsa on Monday night.

The coins were discovered by the regional drug squad unit of the Igoumenitsa Port and included 121 coins made of either copper alloy or silver, 3 rings with bezel, a simple copper ring, a lead object with a seal impression, and an intact clay oil lamp.

All objects were confiscated and will be turned over to the Ephorate of Underwater Archaeology of the region.
