Eight held over Polytechnic incidents released after testimony

Eight people charged with causing an explosion and grievous bodily harm after the November 17 march from the Polytechnic to the US embassy were released on Wednesday following their testimony before the investigating magistrate.

The eight were held in custody after the annual march commemorating the bloody student uprising at the Polytechnic on November 17, 1973.

They denied the charges and were released on terms, including a ban on approaching the Exarchia area.

Meanwhile, a misdemeanour court is expected to hear the testimony of another seven people held in custody over the day's events, on November 29. The seven are charged with attempted grievous bodily harm, disturbing the peace and resistance to authority.
