Voting procedure for the election of new President of the Hellenic Republic at 10:30

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has proposed senior justice Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou, the first female president of the Council of State, as the new president of Greece.

The procedure for the election of the President of the Republic will be carried out in accordance with the revised Article 32 of the Constitution, which stipulates that an overwhelming majority of 200 votes in favour is required in order to elect a president in the first round.

Support for the candidacy of Sakellaropoulou has been expressed by ruling New Democracy, main opposition SYRIZA and the Movement for Change. The parties KKE, Elliniki Lysi and MeRA25 have announced their decision not to support Sakellaropoulou's candidacy by stating "present" at the relevant vote.
