SYRIZA tables law proposal for higher minimum wage

The proposal calls for a 7.5 percent increase in 2020 and a 7.5 percent in 2021 as well as the re-establishment of a marriage benefit.

"Our aim is to fully recover the wage losses in the private sector and to boost the living wage," said SYRIZA deputy Effie Achtsioglou, who is responsible for labour affairs. She added that "after the 11 pct increase in 2019 and the abolition of the youth threshold by the SYRIZA government, the dynamic increase in the minimum wage must continue. This is the minimum requirement so that economic growth does not to concern the few but the many."
