Kikilias also made a call for "calm, seriousness and professionalism".During the meeting, government officials discussed measures to deal with possible coronavirus cases in Greece after the incidents in neighbouring Italy.

"I would like to stress once again that we have taken all the necessary measures to protect public health in the country. We are organised and structured and this is proved by the fact that we have successfully handled all suspected cases so far," he added.

Kikilias called for "all of us to behave in a calm, serious and professional manner. This virus resembles a serious influenza virus and will be treated in this way."

"There is the geographical fact of Italy and as scientists say the chances that it may come to Greece have perhaps increased. But the country is protected, there are 13 referral hospitals, all the other hospitals are ready, as well as health centres, the ambulance service, the National Public Health Organisation, the Committee of Experts on Infectious Diseases and Specialists headed by Professor Tsiodos, who will make extensive announcements this afternoon from the ministry. We are obliged to protect public health and this means that we must seriously, properly and institutionally inform citizens," the minister underlined.
