The government to proceed with construction of new refugee camps, Petsas says
The government is determined to proceed with its plan to construct closed type accommodation centres for migrants and refugees on the islands, government spokesperson Stelios Petsas said on Tuesday in an interview with Open TV, adding that it is in the interests of the local communities to apply controls and prevent anarchy.
"It is a government decision to build closed type accommodation centres as part of a plan to address the refugee-migrant issue. We are asking the local communities to understand that closed type facilities are in their interest. Especially nowadays that public health issues are centre stage, closed type structures will guarantee better health conditions," he explained and added: "The excavating machines and the builders have already arrived at the places where the works will begin."
