Gov't now has no excuse for not adopting frontloaded support measures, SYRIZA's Charitsis says

"After the European proposals the government has no excuse for not immediately taking measures to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the self-employed, the workers, the jobless, the young and the farmers," stated main opposition SYRIZA spokesperson Alexis Charitsis on Friday, speaking to MEGA TV.

He said that the uncertainty created by the government's policy is costly for the Greek economy, adding that "in SYRIZA we are interested in tabling serious proposals and mounting an opposition that will be useful for society," but "unfortunately, we do not consider the government's policy to be socially useful".

On developments in Greek-Turkish relations, Charitsis said that "we are stil waiting for a government initiative, in light of the constantly escalating Turkish provocativeness, so that we can form a national strategy."

"If the government believes the fence will solve the problem, we seriously doubt this," he said, adding: "The only thing we see is a total lack of strategy in foreign policy."
