Schools preparing for return of 16-18 year olds on Monday

The final preparations are being made throughout the country for the reopening of lyceums, the upper highschool attended by pupils aged 16-18, on Monday morning. Self-tests for Covid-19 conducted at home will be key to the success of the reopening, with the relevant platform for reporting self-test results and getting a school attendance card now up and running.

Municipalities throughout the country have taken steps for the cleaning and disinfection of school facilities and for the provision of masks and antiseptics, while education boards have coordinated teachers and students and pharmacists have supplied the tests needed by all those called to return to school next week.

"Schools are read and safe to operate once more," Attica mayors informed the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, while officials in other parts of the country similarly declared themselves ready for the reopening of schools.

They explained that taking the test was mandatory for students, teachers and anyone else involved in the educational process, while the education ministry has made a Herculean effort to ensure that all 300,000 beneficiaries will promptly receive the free tests before classes begin, an operation that involved six ministries, including the health, foreign affairs and the defence ministries.

In the Evros-Rodopi region, special measures have been taken to supply the tests to the children of the minority that do not have AMKA social security numbers from public centres.

The card issued by the self-testing.gov.gr platform is mandatory for school attendance and no student or teacher that has not taken the test will be allowed into the classroom, while teachers have instructions to show sensitivity to difficulties that may arise and take steps to ensure that any problems are overcome and a test is carried out as soon as possible.
