Private hospitals may also be asked to take Covid cases if needed, Plevris tells ANA
Health Minister Thanos Plevris reassured the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) in an interview on Wednesday that no Covid patient will be left without any medical help, adding that private hospitals may join the national health system in providing treatment for Covid cases.
He warned that there will be a new wave of the pandemic in the winter but ruled out the possibility of a general lockdown. "We will consult with the scientists, taking their recommendations into account, but I am not a minister who will hide behind scientists. Decisions at the end of the day are signed by the minister and the government. Scientists recommend. If we get to a point where their recommendations differ from our philosophy and policy, we will obviously discuss these things. If there is an opposite approach, we will re-examine it based on the data at that time," Plevris said.
He also referred to the new vaccination campaign, saying that this will seek to persuade people and not divide them. "When we say that nine out of 10 in ICUs are unvaccinated, we do not say this to scare anyone, we say it to inform people. The campaign will be launched in the coming days and will underline the positive elements, how we will win our lives back. You have seen that in the last week alone we have mourned three young people. We need to understand that we are all vulnerable."
