The European Commission predicts growth rates for Greece that are triple those of the eurozone average, as reflected in its spring forecasts for the European economy, while it ranks 5th for growth rate among the 20 eurozone countries and 9th among the 27 countries of the European Union, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Thursday during a press briefing.

"In fact, these forecasts are very close to those of Greece's stability programme," he added.

He then stated that there was a "gradual restraint of product prices across all supermarket chains in April 2024 compared to April 2023."

Regarding Greece's investments, the European Commission predicted an increase of 6.7% in 2024 and 8.4% in 2025, compared to the eurozone average of 0.1% in 2024 and 1.6% in 2025.

According to the European Commission, Greece ranks first (and with a large difference from the second country, Malta) in the projected growth rate of investments for 2024 and 2025.

He also said that imported inflation was the biggest problem facing every Greek household, adding that the government is "working steadily, taking measures in order to mitigate the repercussions of the phenomenon."

On the postal vote, the government spokesperson said that the process of distributing the relevant materials to voters who have chosen to cast a postal vote in the European elections was proceeding smoothly and at a rapid pace. So far, postal voting ballots have been delivered to approximately 150,000 Greeks throughout the world, out of a total of 202,515 voters, i.e. roughly three quarters of registered voters.
