One of two hikers missing on Mount Olympus found dead, second semi-conscious

Fire brigade sources said the rescue workers found the dead man, aged 42, at an altitude exceeding 2900 metres in a location known as "Stefani" with signs of injuries that may indicate a fall.

His 52-year-old companion was found alive and unharmed but not fully conscious and was taken to the Apostolidis refuge on a stretcher. The descent from the mountain will be completed during the day and he will be taken to hospital.

The two men, both Greek nationals, had set off to climb to the summit on Monday but appear to have lost their way when they reached the Stefani location due to the bad weather. After some hours they started to tire and called for help, at which time a search-and-rescue operation was mounted to find them in the harsh and difficult terrain.
