High alert for fires on Thursday issued by Interior Ministry
A high alert for fires in Attica, Evia and Northern Aegean Islands for Thursday was issued by the Civil Protection Secretary General's office on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry's department said that drivers and people visiting wooded areas should heed any restrictions imposed by local authorities.
The areas facing a high probability of fire on Wednesday include the following, it said:
- The islands of Chios, Ikaria, Lesvos and Samos in the North Aegean
- The islands of Evia and Skyros and Viotia prefecture in mainland Greece, and
- The entire region of Attica
The department also called on people to call the Fire Brigade on 199 for to report fires and wildfires, and referred them to its web page (https://www.civilprotection.gr/en) for further information.
