President Pavlopoulos on 'The crisis of the rule of law in the EU'

Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos, speaking at an event called "The crisis of the rule of law in the European Union" on Tuesday, said that the survival and prospect of the European Union and the Eurozone depend not only on economic and monetary progress but mainly on the resilience of the institutions supporting the European edifice.

These are the only ones that can guarantee European unification, he added, out of which monetary and economic unification will ensue.

Pavlopoulos stressed the importance of maintaining the fundamental institutional base created after WWII to support the prospect of a unified Europe functioning as a federation within a system of representative democracy.

The European rule of law, Pavlopoulos said, provides this institutional base and the unification of Europe relies on the respect Europe shows to it.
