Main opposition New Democracy (ND) vice president Costis Hatzidakis downplayed the success of the 10-year bond issuance by the Greek government by saying that economic conditions in Greece are still not optimal.

In statements to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency's radio "Praktoreio 104.9FM" on Thursday, Hatzidakis said, "I do not want to downgrade the government's efforts or the Greek citizens' sacrifices, and naturally cannot condemn such a (positive) development, but at the same time I want to note that it is occurring against a hazy backround."

"It is not just that it has by far the highest interest rate in the eurozone, what also matters is that Greece also leads all 40 OECD countries in the highest tax increase from 2015 to the present," he said.

Europe, he said, "is facing a multilevel crisis at this phase which is of key importance for it course in the future," and he cited euroscepticism and called for "forces that do not believe in the division and the conflicts inside Europe but in coopeation and friendship among people" to explain to EU residents that Europe has a promising future and stands for peace and progress.
