Parliament to vote on report that Greek state's claims for German reparations remain active
The parliament is on Wednesday scheduled to adopt a resolution regarding Greece's claim for German WWII reparations and compensation.
The decision will be of historic importance, as it will mark the first steps and give the signal for the official launch of the claim.
The claims of the Greek state remain active and are still outstanding, and as Parliament President Nikos Voutsis has stated, this discussion is taking place two years after the conclusion of a cross-party parliamentary committee on the issue, because during the memorandum programme period it was not permitted to attempt to offset any claims against Greece's debt to Germany under the support programme.
"Greece has never waived any of its claims against Germany," he said, referring to the conclusions of the cross-party parliamentary committee, which also established that these claims cannot be written off or be considered to be expired.
