Additional fiscal space allows new positive and permanent measures, Tzanakopoulos says
"We are tabling a censure motion against (main opposition New Democracy leader) Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who wants to reintroduce a regime of corruption and intertwined interests," government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, said on Tuesday in an interview with ANT1 TV.
Tzanakopoulos noted that the leader of New Democracy faced "a political and strategic impasse" following the collapse of his opposition tactics, since he had invested in a disaster scenario where Greece was unable to tap the markets, unemployment remained high and problems persisted.
The additional fiscal space that is being created in 2019 allows injustices to be redressed, the spokesman added, and said that the government will soon announce new positive measures that are permanent in character, rather than one-off handouts.
Tzanakopoulos urged patience until these are announced and stressed that conditions of austerity are over.
In a question about the tax-free income allowance, he replied that this concerns the 2020 budget and reiterated the commitment of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras that, with a SYRIZA government in power, the tax-free allowance will definitely not be reduced.
He also noted that if any government can bring about a reduction of the 3.5 percent primary surplus target, this can only be a SYRIZA government.
