Sakellaropoulou: The example of our islanders, their self-denial and patriotism

"In the current situation, the example of our islanders, their self-denial and patriotism, is a source of inspiration for all Greeks," President Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on Monday from the island of Karpathos, where she attended the celebration of the 76th anniversary of the Revolutionary Liberation Movement.

"It is with great pleasure that we are honouring together the 76th Anniversary of the liberation of Karpathos. I honour the courage and bravery of the inhabitants of the island who, few in number but with high spirit, raised the Greek flag and won their freedom, first of all the Dodecanese," Sakellaropoulou underlined.

Later, the President of the Republic laid a wreath at the Monument of October 5, 1944.
