Public hospital staff union files for suspension of mandatory vaccination law

POEDIN, the union federation representing staff in public hospitals, on Wednesday filed petitions with the Council of State, Greece's supreme administrative court, asking that a law that will require unvaccinated colleagues to take unpaid leave after September 1 be suspended and revoked.

The government has passed legislation that requires all healthcare and welfare personnel to get vaccinated against Covid-19 before September 1 or else take mandatory leave without pay.

The union claims the law is contrary to constitutional rights and freedoms, as well as international treaties that recognise the right of individuals to decide on issues relating to their health free of direct or indirect pressure.

It also cited the failure to examine other alternatives, such as requiring staff to submit a diagnostic test if they don't wish to be vaccinated.
