Educational reform offers benefits for students and their families, Kerameus says
Following the announcement of the pass marks for admission to tertiary education institutes in Greece on Friday, Education Minister Niki Kerameus commented that the recent educational reform offered benefits to both school leavers and their families.
"Our young people are no longer trapped in universities. Their studies have value as we do not have the phenomenon of people admitted with marks of 1, 2 and 3. Our young people have a way out and prospects. Their studies will give them the things they want and help them establish themselves professionally," she said on state broadcaster ERT.
"There is also a benefit for universities who see the prestige of their studies upgraded, while for the first time they have a say in how students will be admitted with the right given to them to choose for themselves the coefficient for the minimum admission mark," she added.
She also noted that public vocational schools have also been added to the academic map, offering alternatives to young people.
Kerameus noted that students now met the minimum academic requirements and "we are no longer stringing our children along". She said that Greece until now had one of the lowest rates for studies and graduation in all countries in the European Union.
