Reopening of Halki Seminary the focus of PM Mitsotakis, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at Maximos mansion on Monday.
In Athens to attend events marking the 30-year anniversary since he ascended to the patriarchal throne, Bartholomew and Mitsotakis exchanged views on patriarchal matters and issues relating to the Greek minority in Turkey.
The issue of the reopening of the Halki Theological School was also discussed, and Mitsotakis was briefed by Bartholomew on the latest developments following the latter's recent visit to the United States and his contacts with the American leadership.
The premier spoke of Greece's continued bilateral and international support for the Ecumenical Throne's fair demands relating to the religious freedom of Orthodox Christians in Turkey, and said Halki's reopening remains a high priority.
Mitsotakis congratulated Bartholomew on his anniversary and thanked him for the excellent way in which he responded to his high mission.
