Tsoukalas: The gov't is 'deeply exposed' by its stance on Mercosur agreement

The government is "deeply exposed" by its stance on the Mercosur agreement said main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas on Thursday, stressing that “PASOK’s clear position on the grey areas of the agreement, which create new problems for our national interests, is being vindicated.”

More specifically, in a statement, the spokesperson of PASOK–Movement for Change noted that “the European Parliament voted in favour of referring the EU–Mercosur agreement to the Court of Justice of the European Union, so that it can decide whether parts of the agreement are compatible with the EU Treaties,” and that “in practice, the European Parliament approved the suspension of the agreement’s ratification process.”

He pointed out that “PASOK’s parliamentary group in the European Parliament voted in favour of the resolution” and commented that “the government, which fanatically tried to convince public opinion that all European countries approve the agreement and portrayed those who disagreed as populists, is today deeply exposed."
