Five metro stations to remain open for the homeless for next five days

Five metro stations in Athens will remain open during the night and for the next five days to protect the homeless from the freezing temperatures expected in the coming days, the ministry of infrastructure said on Friday.

Greece has been gripped by a cold spell since last week with snowfall continuing in many parts of the country, including Athens’ northern suburbs. Omonia, Monastiraki, Metaxourgio Syngrou-Fix and Eleonas will be welcome vulnerable citizens and a new ministry decision is expected next week depending on the weather conditions of the time.
The ministry also said essentials will be provided to the homeless as well as healthcare if needed.
