Ships throughout the country to remain docked on Wednesday
All ships will remain docked on Wednesday, May 30, due to a 24-hour strike declared by the Panhellenic Seamen's Federation (PNO) - on the same day as a 24-hour general strike called by the country's largest trade union federations in the private and public sectors, GSEE and ADEDY.
PNO said in a statement that "the dissolution of the social security fund and the seizure of all its movable and immovable assets, the destruction of the passenger ship's staff composition, the alleged new increases in insurance contributions, as well as the new cuts in primary and supplementary pensions and the unpaid benefits to crews, rising unemployment in the industry, black uninsured work, continued violations of working conditions and continually deteriorating social security and medical treatment coverage of active and retired seafarers, cannot and should not remain unanswered."
PNO called on the government to provide solutions to its problems, while stressing that it is uniting its voice and its forces with all other workers and pensioners across the country.
