Snowfall and cold is forecast on Christmas in Greece
The weather is going to get worse in the next days starting from Monday evening from the north. According to the National Meteorological Service, the temperatures will drop up to 10C in the next two days while strong winds will blow in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea.
On Tuesday, (Christmas) snow will initally fall in the mountainous areas and later to areas with indicative altitude 300 to 500 metres in the regions of Thrace, Ipiros, Thessaly and in the afternoon in Sterea, Evia and the Peloponnese. The snow will stop falling during the night in the northern parts but will the snowfall will intesify in the eastern parts of the country.
On Wednesday, the snowfall will continue in the eastern parts of country and in areas under 400m altitude.
In the region of Attica snowing will start in the mountains on Tuesday evening and gradually the snowfall will intensify and during the night and on Wednesday morning will affect areas with lower altitude (500m). The snow is expected to stop falling on Wednesday evening. However, severe frost will prevail on the mainland on Thursday.
