An Athens anti-corruption prosecutor summoned MP and former health minister Andreas Loverdos to testify on May 3 as a suspect in the Novartis pharmaceuticals giant bribery scandal, it was announced on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki summoned Loverdos after forwarding the case file through the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Justice to Parliament earlier in April, asking for the lifting of his immunity. According to case documents, the MP is called to testify on suspicion of bribery.

Several political personalities have so far been implicated in the Novartis scandal, but their cases were recently shelved, including former prime minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos and former ministers Evangelos Venizelos, Andreas Lykourentzos and Giorgos Koutroumanis.

Ongoing cases include former PM Antonis Samaras; Bank of Greece Governor and former finance minister Yannis Stournaras; and former health ministers Dimitris Avramopoulos, currently European Migration Commissioner, and Adonis Georgiadis, currently Vice president of New Democracy.
