President Sakellaropoulou to inaugurate 17th Thessaloniki International Book Fair

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou will inaugurate the 17th Thessaloniki International Book Fair at 11:30 on Thursday.

The annual event (Nov 19-29) will move online this year due to the heavy coronavirus infection rates in the northern city.

The event will be also be addressed by Culture & Sports Minister Lina Mendoni, and the entire opening ceremony will be broadcast live from the TIF-HELEXPO premises in Thessaloniki and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture (HFC) in Athens.

In terms of all scheduled events beyond the opening ceremony, some will be broadcast live from Athens and others will be available through an online platform.

The 17th TBF is organized by HFC with TIF-HELEXPO, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, associations of Greek publishers as well as independent publishers, with the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Culture & Sports.

The Fair will also host the 7th New Writers’ Festival, the 5th Translation Festival and the 3rd Literary Performance Festival. Events include presentations of new publications, discussions with authors, meetings among professionals of the book industry, thematic exhibitions and film screenings. Seminars and professionals’ meetings concerning the Greek and the international book market are also being scheduled.

Part of the event's funding comes from the European Regional Development Fund in the framework of the Regional Operational Program of Central Macedonia 2014-2020.
