GNTO and University of Thessaly sign memorandum of cooperation
The Greek National Tourist Organisation (GNTO) and the economic policy and strategic planning laboratory of the Department of Economics of the University of Thessaly on Wednesday announced the signature of a Memorandum of Cooperation for conducting modern and in-depth research and other similar actions in the field of tourism.
The aim of their cooperation, according to an announcement, is the substantial support of tourism development in the country on a research and planning level, as well as the creation of appropriate tools for better promotion of Greek tourism in domestic and international markets.
"The development of synergies with public and private bodies that contribute creatively to strengthening the image of Greece as a tourist destination is a key parameter of the Organisation's strategy," said GNTO President Angela Gerekou, during the online announcement of the signing of the Memorandum. As she explained, "for the promotion of the country as an international cultural destination with a special character and strong momentum, collaboration with institutions whose activities help highlight the economic contribution of tourism and its interaction with the local economy is preferred."
The president of GNTO stressed that "we seek to have the best possible benchmark results, so that we can manage the needs of both incoming and domestic tourism, creating modern campaigns, registers of professionals, tourist digital maps, but also products and updates for the visitor of today." Referring to the usefulness of the scientific data, she pointed out: "We are deliberately and methodically collecting data through scientific databases in collaboration with organisations and other Greek and foreign universities, in order to ensure both the credibility and protection of the data in the most neutral and objective way possible."
Finally, she pointed out that this action was a continuation of the cooperation between the GNTO and the Digital Governance Ministry, which aims at the "digital upgrade of the GNTO and the creation of an even more data-driven organisation."
