SYRIZA's Iliopoulos urges the government to provide substantial financial support to SMEs

"Whether retail opens next week or not, the government must finally provide substantial financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and employees," main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Nasos Iliopoulos, said on Thursday in an interview with MEGA TV.

"If the government does not reverse the current situation, 2021 will be a year of new social and economic bankruptcy," pointed out Iliopoulos, calling on the government of New Democracy to proceed with a mechanism for dealing with corporate debt, and to replace the repayable advance with grants in order to support employees."

Regarding vaccination, he stressed that "in this issue, too, the government bet on the good scenario, as it did with the second wave of the pandemic, for which Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself admitted that we had never prepared."

"In November the government talked about more than two million vaccinations per month and Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias in December spoke about 1,018 vaccination centres, while today we only have 114," he noted.
