Expulsion for 180,000 "perennial" students within the year

Within the year are expected to lose their student status 180,000 students, of which 70,000 in technical colleges, as well as the students who entered before 2006 must try much to get the coveted degree within the year.

As it is know, there is no time limit for graduation in Greek universities and colleges and a student can hold the student status forever, while according to the data collected in universities from across the country, four in ten students have significantly delayed or have abandon their studies, while only one in ten manages to take his degree on time.

However, according to data analysis, the "active" students are estimated in 230,000. "Champions" in perennial students is the University of Athens, the Panteion University and the Aristotle University. At the University of Patras the "perennial" students estimated at around 3,000, and at the University of Ioannina are about 2,500.

According to the Statistical Office, from the 596,000 students from universities and technical colleges, 300,000 are characterized as inactive since they have definitively left their studies , while is not impossible for some of them to have delay getting their degree.

Of these it is estimated that approximately 180,000 must be deleted from the registers under the new law. Of the 178,826 recorded, most were men (98,887). The number in this category (male students) was increased in one year by 3.4 %, which corresponds to 3,227 people.

Rectors on their side, despite the fact that they are in favor of clearing the registers, have asked not to be harmed the students who work to meet the costs of their studies.
Rectors ask to be applied transitional provisions for those who are close to the limit of the decade, while everyone agrees that should be expelled the ones that are "retired students".
