Shipping Ministry to send water trucks to Symi, after island water supply is hit by storms

Deputy Shipping Minister Nektarios Santorinios said the ministry will send water trucks with 2,000 cubic meters of water to the island of Symi, in the eastern Aegean, to cover the immediate needs of the island.

Authorities declared a state of emergency on the island on Tuesday, after it was hit by torrential rain. The expense will be covered by the budget of the general Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy.

The ministry is also in contact with the island's Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company to assess the damages at the desalination unit in order to secure funds from National Public Investment Program.
