IMF: Discussions on 2019 policies will start over the next months

"The IMF remains committed to the implementation of its programme policies and the settlement of Greek debt," a spokesman of the international financial institution said. According to an announcement, the IMF expects that "discussions on the financial perspectives and policies for 2019 will begin with the Greek government and European partners in the next few months, as agreed," the IMF said.

The spokesman made this statement when he was asked to comment on reports that the Fund wants to fuel ongoing negotiations, demanding both a reduction in the tax-free threshold by 2019 and a simultaneous cut in pensions and the freeze of countermeasures.

The IMF spokesman added that "these two requirements for debt reform and debt relief have been a long standing position of the Fund, and only by fulfilling them will it be possible to activate the program."

According to the announcement, the IMF expects that "discussions on the financial perspectives and policies for 2019 will begin with the Greek government and European partners in the coming months, as agreed".
