A significant step for increasing the minimum wage, Achtsioglou says
"Today is an important day for the labour market and for our government, because today we are making a significant step in implementing our primary pledge to the great social majority.
This pledge was none other than to boost the disposable income and increase the wages of workers," Labour Minister Effie Achtsioglu said on Thursday in parliament, during a debate on the proposed measure.
She also stressed that "this government will vote for a single and higher minimum wage as of January 2019."
"The reinforcement of the disposable income and the wage increases for employees throughout the country is the central political focus of this government and we serve this by re-establishing collective bargaining, which are a reality since August 2018," the minister noted.
