Greek stocks end lower

Greek stocks ended lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Wednesday, reversing a four-day rally which pushed the general index of the market 3.01 pct higher. Traders said investors took profits in view of political developments in the country.

The general index fell 1.18 pct to end at 637.08 points, off the day’s lows of 631.74 points. Turnover was 33.310 million euros in volume of 15,385,099 shares. The Large Cap index was 1.20 pct lower and the Mid Cap index fell 1.40 pct. Grivalia Properties (2.55 pct), Athens Water (1.19 pct) and Piraeus Port (1.15 pct) scored big gains, while PPC (4.92 pct), OTE (2.86 pct) and Eurobank (2.79 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, only the Real Estate scored gains (1.92 pct), while Telecoms (2.86 pct), Commerce (1.92 pct) and Health (1.89 pct) suffered heavy losses. Eurobank and Alpha Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 59 to 28 with another 27 issues unchanged. Varvaresos (19.78 pct), ANEK (16.07 pct) and Audiovisual (10 pct) were top gainers, while G.E. Dimitriou (16.67 pct), Ideal (8.33 pct) and Attica Holdings (7.58 pct) were top losers.
