Supermarkets saw turnover rise 7.5 percent last year, according to the special publication, Panorama of Greek Supermarkets.
More particularly, turnover last year reached 8.37 billion euros, 585.2 million euros higher than the previous year. Profit, however, for the same period plunged 73.7 percent to 70.24 million euros, from 267.2 million euros in 2016.
The sharp in profitability in the sector mostly comes about from the takeover of the Marinopoulos stores by Sklavenitis and the reopening of the Sklavenitis mega stores.
The data used figures taken from the balance sheet of 36 companies.
