Former minister Papantoniou denies he delayed in opening his Swiss bank accounts
Former Minister Yiannos Papantoniou, who is currently jailed on remand ahead of his trial on charges of money laundering, attacked claims made by the examining magistrates handling his case that he and his wife had delayed in opening their bank accounts in Switzerland, in a statement made on Friday.
Papantoniou said it was "false and dishonest" to present the "alleged delay" in the opening of the bank accounts "as a reason that justifies our temporary incarceration". He also claimed that both he and his wife had done everything in their power to assist the completion of the inquiry "with great willingness and a spirit of cooperation."
