The protection of first residence is main priority, State Min Flambouraris says
The protection of main homes from foreclosures is currently the primary concern for State Minister Alekos Flambouraris, the minister revealed in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) released on Tuesday.
In the interview, he disagreed with the view that protecting main homes undermines finding solutions for bad loans. He also cited data released by the Hellenic Bank Association, according to which main home mortgages correspond to only one quarter of bad loans.
Based on the above, the minister added, home foreclosures should first target large loans and 'deliberate bad debtors'.
"This has nothing to do with the poor or the small and middle-income citizens, the unemployed, wage earners, the retired or micro-entrepreneurs", Flambouraris said, calling on banks to "remember that their developmental and social dimension depends on the Greek taxpayer."
