Greece on track to meet EU targets on climate change, EU sources say
Greece is well on track to meet the targets set by the European Union for addressing climate change up to 2020 with regard to the participation of renewable energy sources in the energy balance, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the improvement of energy efficiency, according to European Commission sources.
At an event held in Brussels on Monday, the same sources said that all member-states will submit their targets for 2030 by the end of the year while the Commission will present its strategy for climate change up to 2050 in November.
The same sources said that Greece is playing a strategic role for the improvement of energy security and the diversification of energy supply sources in the wider region, mostly through the implementation of the natural gas south corridor. This includes the TAP pipeline, which starts from the Greek-Turkish borders and will transfer gas from Azerbaijan to Europe via Greece and Italy.
